TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is a standardized English Proficiency test for those persons who intend to pursue their higher education in the United States of America or Canada or any other country whose language is English. Administered by ETS, the TOEFL exam is offered in three formats: TOEFL iBT (Internet based test), TOEFL At Home and TOEFL Test on Paper including TOEFL at Home (which can be taken from home) and TOEFL Test on Paper (which can be taken at test centers as well as at home).

Course Module

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is designed to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers. The exam evaluates skills in four key areas: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Here’s the TOEFL syllabus:

1. Reading Section

  • Content: This section includes 3-4 reading passages from academic texts. Passages are approximately 700 words each.
  • Skills Tested: Understanding main ideas, details, inferences, and vocabulary.
  • Types of Questions: Multiple-choice, sentence completion, and summary questions.

2. Listening Section

  • Content: This section includes 4-6 audio recordings, including conversations and lectures.
  • Skills Tested: Comprehension of main ideas, details, speaker attitudes, and implications.
  • Types of Questions: Multiple-choice, note-taking, and summary questions.

3. Speaking Section

  • Content: This section involves 6 tasks.
    • Tasks 1 and 2: Independent speaking tasks where you respond to questions based on personal experience or opinions.
    • Tasks 3 and 4: Integrated speaking tasks based on reading passages and listening recordings.
    • Tasks 5 and 6: Integrated speaking tasks based on listening recordings and your own responses.
  • Skills Tested: Ability to speak clearly, coherently, and appropriately in academic and everyday contexts.

4. Writing Section

  • Content: This section includes 2 tasks.
    • Task 1: Integrated Writing Task where you read a passage, listen to a recording, and then write a response based on both.
    • Task 2: Independent Writing Task where you write an essay based on your own opinion or experience.

Skills Tested: Organization of ideas, clarity of expression, and proper use of grammar and vocabulary.

Preparation Tips For Students

  • Review and understand subject-wise syllabus and exam pattern

  • Separate the easy and challenging chapters and begin with the easier ones.

  • Distribute the topics equally as per priority and start preparation.
    Make weekly schedules for all major subjects or whatever seems difficult to you.
